DUCK LOVE

I'm in a foreign countryside, standing in the center of my dream next to a lone large leafless tree and I have the power to communicate with non-human living beings.  I am looking up at two indescribably beautiful ducks sitting in the branches looking down at me.  I have called them in a special high-pitched language.  They are totally attentive.  A companion is amazed.  I change the pitch and two huge beautiful moth-like butterflies come and hover in the air totally transfixed by my call.  Their beauty is indescribable.

From the point of view of this apparently dualistic universe the Self is a foreign land.  I am standing in the middle of the Self.  I believe this means that the dream is saying that everything takes place in Awareness, the Self.   It also means that I am the Self, that the Self is my true identity.  Having me stand ‘next to a lone large leafless tree’ means that I am standing next to the Self.  This tree is also the Self. In a non-dual reality, which this certainly is in spite of appearances to the contrary, there is only one Self…non-dual Awareness.  It is ‘leafless’ meaning that it has no attributes.  It is ‘large.’  Large symbolizes limitlessness.  One of the Sanskrit words for the Self is Brahman which means large, vast, limitless.

I am ‘next’ to this tree.  The Bible says ‘Man is cast in the image of God.’  I am ‘next’ to God like my shadow is next to my body.  I am ‘looking up’ at ‘two ducks’ looking down at me.  Looking up symbolizes meditation, spiritual inquiry.  Ramana Maharshi, an Indian sage, says “Self inquiry is holding the mind on the Self.’  What do I see?  Two ducks.  The Self, which is producing this dream to inform and compliment me, has chosen one of my personal  symbols for pure love…ducks.  Whether it is true or not (I believe it is) ducks mate for life.  They are so attached to each other that they are never out of each other’s sight.  And when one dies the other dies shortly after.  So they are fitting symbols for eternal love.  The dream has me looking at love.  Love is the nature of the Self.  And love is looking at me.  ‘Looking at’ means seeing.  It means I have the eyes of love, non-dual vision.  Even though the ducks are two in outer reality, in their hearts, they are one.

Next the dream says I have the power to communicate with myself in a ‘high pitched language.’  This can symbolize any spiritual practice but probably indicates my dreamwork because dreamwork is essentially a linguistic art.  Dreams are the words of the Self.  Dreamwork is a means of understanding the psychic self from the Self’s point of view and for communicating with the Self, ‘talking with God.’ Perhaps the Self is saying that I have mastered Its language.  It would be fair to say that my whole life since since my awakening has been about developing my skill at communicating God knowledge to others.

The ‘amazed companion’ is probably my rational mind.  The flood of dreams that have occurred in the last year are not only amazing in themselves but, considering my negative views about dream analysis, it is amazing that understand them has become an obsession. The dream says that this intimate communication with the Self and with others about the Self is ‘high pitched.’ Perhaps it signifies the movement from middle to old age but more likely it represents the high degree of psychic integration caused by my vision of God, the true maturity brought about by wisdom, since love is our sole reason to be.  The amazing butterflies that are attracted by my high pitched call symbolize the beauty of pure love.  There is nothing more beautiful than love.
