“I’m a guru” means “I’m unenlightened”

If you find yourself thinking that you are a guru or informing others of this belief you are not enlightened.  Why?  Because thinking of yourself as a guru means that you have assumed a limited identity.  If you are enlightened you know that there is only one Self, that the Self is limitless and that you are it.  This means that you cannot ‘be’ a guru.

To be enlightened means that you are guru, not ‘a guru.’  Guru is not an occupation or a role that can be assumed by anyone who wishes to do so…it is what removes ignorance.  What removes ignorance is truth.  And truth does not reside with anybody.  It is something that happens automatically when one or more inquiring minds set out to solve a problem.

When you think you are a guru or act like a guru you are trying to elevate yourself in your own eyes and the eyes of others.  But if you are the Self you are neither high nor low, big or small, knowledgeable or ignorant and you know that there are no others, that none are in bondage and none are ignorant.
