Neo-Advaita

In the Eighties the Western spiritual world became reacquainted with Ramana Maharshi as a result of the popularity of the Neo-Advaita satsang 'movment' inspired by the disciples of one of Ramana's disciples, H.W. L. Poonjajii. This 'movement' has very little in common with either traditional Vedanta or modern Vedanta or even its inspiration, Ramana…except the doctrine of non-duality. The satsangs discuss Neo-Advaita in light of the teachings of traditional Vedanta. Traditional Vedanta is a means of Self knowledge that has evolved out of the Upanishads and includes the ideas of non-duality, qualified non-duality, sadhana, Self inquiry and bhakti.
