Chinmaya Mission online course - experiences?

Postby georgschiller » Sat Nov 07, 2015 2:42 am

Hello everybody,

I have been considering starting one of the Chinmaya Mission online courses (most likely the Bhagavad Gita course) -> information can be found on www.chinfo.org/courses/bhagavadgita/ . I was wondering if anybody else had experiences with this course or any similar course.

Was it helpful?
Did you enjoy it?
Would you do it again?
or would you rather listen and read the material offered on shiningworld?

Thanks ;)

Hello George,

A pleasure to meet you.

I have some experience with Chinmaya Mission online courses specifically the advanced Vedanta Course.

Was it helpful?
Yes, it was. It added a lot of structure for me. I seemingly tend to want the information fast and can bounce around here and there all the while not getting a streamlined teaching as required. The course kept me on the proper knowledge path. It was great and I would recommend it for any one. While doing the course I continued to watch videos, read scripture etc as It helps with the understanding of the course. I noticed if there was a part in the course I needed further clarification on, I would seek sources for more information. That really helped accelerate my learning.

Did you enjoy it?
Yes, of course. It is vedanta lol, its about me lol. There were a lot of ah ha moments but that comes from any source of truth.

Would you do it again?
I have been considering doing the Gita course. I am intending on going through the courses literature once more. Now Chin info offers these courses with a webinar which make it more enticing. I am no expert but, the knowledge is inline with the truth and thats all I currently desire as a seeker.

or would you rather listen and read the material offered on shiningworld?
I think any source of the knowledge, provided it is the truth and layout out in a way it can be assimilated properly, is useful. I plan on going thru the course again as every time you go over the same teaching you pick up more of the truth. I am drawn to Ram because “he” just focuses on the knowledge. I have gone to a Chinmaya mission near me and even thou it was great to be around like minded people, there was a lot of focus on the indian/hindu culture and dieties. I just crave the knowledge.

Let me know, did you do one?

I have not done it.

I looked into the samples offered on their website. It looked good but it also sounded a little bit too dogmatic or rigid. Their focus on Hindu traditions and values are a little off-putting for a Westerner. I don't know. I might be wrong. :?:

I probably would do the course if it were not for the long time. They require to do it for a whole 12 or 24 months which is quite a long time. It also sounds a bit stressful to write essays and such.

Is it possible to just read the papers they send out?
