Only One Mantra
Seeker: James, I seem to be on a gratitude kick right now, and I wanted to get this out to you while it’s on my mind.
Anyway, there is one part in one of your videos in the DVD set where you say something to the effect of it doesn’t matter if you feel good because you are good. This has had a very powerful effect on me. I don’t know, I’m sure there’s some synergy in the whole message, but I feel like I could toss out the whole rest of the teaching based on that one statement. It’s more significant than any of the great sayings (or whatever they’re called) that I’m familiar with. It’s a message of pure love that you obviously say out of love, similar to when you say that all the scripture is saying is that “you’re okay.” GOOD NEWS, indeed!
James: Lovely to hear from you. Appreciation is always appreciated. Yes indeed, you only need to really understand one of Vedanta’s many teachings because they are all the same teaching. You are good. Good means “auspicious, adequate, complete, lacking nothing.” You are what is good in everything. When you do something right, you feel good but the goodness didn’t come from action. The action removed the bad feeling that was separating you from your innate goodness, and you started to experience yourself as goodness itself. It is a big relief to know this because most people are taught that there is something wrong with them – they are “bad.” Stick with this statement. It is all you need.
