The Shifting Sands of Samsara
Angelina: Dear Sundari, I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my vaccine dilemma – and understand you have no clear answer. There isn’t one really, because this whole maya world keeps shifting and changing – and from satya, it’s all unreal anyway – appearing real as the manifest world.
Sundari: You are most welcome, Angelina, and you are right. It would be nice if Isvara could give us cut-and-dried answers to samsaric problems, but there aren’t any, unfortunately.
Angelina: However, still we are faced with difficult decisions here. This is one of the hardest and most confusing issues having to do with children today! We will likely give my son some of the basic and more pertinent vaccines, and pray of course for a long and healthy life for him. Fortunately, he is seven-and-a-half, extremely healthy and has great “organic” immunity.
Sundari: This is all you can do; don’t get caught up in second-guessing yourself and stressing over the decision you make. We all do the best we can with the knowledge we have of changing objects. The most important aspect is your love and concern for your son. Don’t spoil that by becoming fanatical. Trust that Isvara appearing as your son can cope with what life has in store for him and that as his custodian you have done your best. Apply karma yoga, remember, in all situations. The results are not up to you no matter what you do or don’t do. Just keep fear out of it. Trust yourself as the self and do the same for your son.
Angelina: Whenever I don’t have a clear direction or feel confused, I defer to Isvara… preferring to activate the default mode of my particular existence – rather than think for a moment that I am the doer here. James always says that it’s bad news to hear that the results of our actions are not up to us. However, upon hearing those words the first time, I felt as if my whole being exhaled! And a profound and abiding relaxation has taken root from that understanding.
Sundari: Absolutely. You can shift it all on Isvara, how cool is that! Apply the knowledge you have with regards to yours and your son’s physical health knowing that love is all that matters in the end, no matter the result.
Angelina: I find peace in self-knowledge. I send love to you and James. And look forward to our meeting again, hopefully in April.
~ Gratefully, Angelina
Sundari: The only real peace there is is in self-knowledge. Thank you for your kind wishes, and likewise to you.
