Behind Preconceived Ideas
Seeker: Om Namo Narayanaya. I have been reading e-satsangs at the ShiningWorld website. I finally got your book How to Attain Enlightenment. Thank you very much for such a lucid and concise explanation of Vedanta. I have read Swami Chinmayananda’s Manual of Self-Unfoldment, and your book reminds me of Gurudev’s book in many parts. However, your writing speaks to me, as it takes me behind my preconceived ideas about my own tradition that I have picked while growing up in India. Pujya Swami Dayanandaji’s books do the same for me. I now appreciate Isvara in life and living. Having read Nisargadatta Maharaj and listened to Ramesh Balsekar, I can appreciate how traditional Vedanta is much more structured and powerful and complete in providing a way to moksa. Having dabbled in “yoga,” I can now understand that epiphanies, bliss, highs, do not bring about moksa, but are divine grace and also come about by divine grace when the All-Knowing feels it is helpful for the body-mind-sense complex to experience them. One need not chase after them.
I also understand that the desire and fear comes from the original misunderstanding.
Thank you, I wish you good health and may all mumukshus benefit from your book.
