Paintball Shooting and Spray-Painting
Dao: Your last mail cleared everything up. All this time searching… for what?
Daniel: We have to search in order to realise that we don’t need to search, to realise that we’re already what/who we’re looking for: ordinary, obvious awareness. The searching game also tends to qualify us. No time wasted, amigo.
Dao: I’ve got rock-solid confidence in the knowledge… but hey, what did I do?
Daniel: You worked hard, and Isvara graced you.
Dao: I simply apply the teachings to my mind and see my sense of doership removed. Self-inquiry is so simple!
Daniel: Yup, when the mind is qualified, the mere application of the teaching will do the work.
Dao: This ignorance really seemed hardwired.
Daniel: After Vedanta, ignorance is the smartest thing ever, it’s amazingly sly. Keep applying the teachings even when you think you’ve outsmarted it.
Dao: You’d mentioned a quote by Jesus, “On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” I actually feel this is true for me. I’m non-dual awareness. Always have been, always will be.
Daniel: Apart from being too outspoken, Jesus was a smart guy. And yes, you have always have been and always will be non-dual, unchanging awareness.
Dao: It’s just silly to think of duality as something real. There’s no evidence that we’re not complete already.
Daniel: We all get fooled by maya.
Dao: You said merely applying the teachings to your mind does the trick.
Daniel: If the the mind is qualified, yes, sir.
Dao: I just look at James Swartz’s chart (self/not-self), I look at the Om sign and go, damn, that’s me.
Dao: I’m no more going around in circles.
Daniel: Good for you. The spiritual circle circus is tiresome.
Dao: Also I see this mental baggage completely drop. The truth is so simple, but damn, you really had your hands full with me, didn’t you? I see myself as I am. There’s nothing more to do, nothing to know.
Daniel: Vedanta is the knowledge that encompasses all knowledge. Game over.
Dao: Lack of clarity regarding the nature of the self is lack of self-love.
Daniel: Lack of clarity is when ignorance is having a go.
Dao: Also, these vananas are non-binding. What on earth do they have to do with me anyway?
Daniel: Yup, you, awareness = vasana-free. You are triguna-atita, which means you are “beyond” the gunas.
Dao: Also, I don’t look up to you Vedanta teachers anymore.
Daniel: Say what!? I’m taking your enlightenment badge right away! ☺
Dao: There’s only one self, and I am it.
Dao: I shouldn’t think I’m a tiny wave when I’m obviously the ocean, but it wasn’t really my fault, if that makes sense.
Daniel: The ocean sometimes gets apparently fooled. No fault, just an apparent play of mis-identification.
Dao: I remember being hospitalized in Tenerife (Spain); if any person had a dark night of the soul, it would be me. But I feel I can love that part now. I feel I can love the jiva unconditionally.
Daniel: “Love your jiva, warts and all.” ~ Ramji
Dao: I almost feel bored knowing that I’m awareness, but of course that’s an object appearing in me.
Daniel: No need to feel bored, go play a sport or learn an instrument. Try paintball shooting and spray-painting walls, that’s pretty fun.
Dao: I see that there’s only one jiva here.
Daniel: Spot on.
Dao: Ain’t nothing easier than discriminating the self from the not-self, but it sure as hell took a while before I was able to appreciate my very own self.
Daniel: Like all things in life, the valuable stuff is well-earned.
Dao: Anyway, I’m not sure what I’m gonna do now. It’s just discrimination from here and forward.
Daniel: Yup, as long as the jiva is running around, discrimination continues.
Dao: I want to thank Vedanta and you guys for the wonderful work you’re doing.
Daniel: Our pleasure.
Dao: Let me know what ya think.
Daniel: Be humble, have fun and take it easy.
