Can’t Skip Rajas
Ifat: Dear Swamiji, I just want to tell you that I appreciate you a lot a lot!!! I am still at the ashram studying Gita Chapter XVIII with wonderful Swami TV, so I am doing really fine. I so grateful to you, James, for all that you did for me from the first moment we met. I will be back home in three weeks, starting a new job and renting a new apartment at a new place. I hope to have a fresh good start and keep the lifestyle pure with a surrendered attitude.Sending you my love and hope to see you soon.
James: Lovely to hear from you, Ifat. Appreciation is always appreciated. It seems that Swami TV has had a very positive impact on your state of mind and that the tamas is dissipating. He is a great mahatma. It is really good that you are getting a job and a new flat, etc. The way out of rajas is tamas, and the way out of rajas is sattva. But first, rajas. You can’t avoid the world. See it as mithya and it is not a problem. Tamas is suffering, and rajas is suffering, but you can’t hop from tamas to sattva. You have to use rajas to burn out the tamas. Spiritual types tend to be lazy and want to avoid hard work. It is a big trap. Hard work is good.
As for me, everything is about the same except that I am getting more and more popular. More than 150 have signed up for the India teaching. We had to move to the Old Rice Mill, as Sunshine Guest House is not big enough. We are in South Africa now, working on a book on the gunas. My health is good. Isvara is great. Maybe you will come to Germany in the spring. I love you.
