Don’t Put Yourself Down
Allison: Dear Ram, your direct communication is so refreshing and I might have a chance of knowing self because of you. I won’t give up, regardless of the fact that I wonder if I have a strong enough intellect to grasp the knowledge.
Ram: It doesn’t require a strong intellect, Allison, because what I am saying is that you are whole and complete, that your nature is love. This is not a difficult idea to grasp intellectually. It may be difficult to accept because you have a contrary notion, but if you are intelligent enough to think you are limited, you are intelligent enough to think you are limitless.
There are many teachings that prove that to you, but they don’t require anything more that an average brain. Many qualifications are mentioned in the texts and not one of them has to do with a strong intellect.
Discrimination, which is one of the important qualifications, requires an intellect, but if you can choose between an apple and an orange and can do your duty in the world, you have enough intellect. In the case of inquiry you are asked to discern whether you are an incomplete separate person or you are whole and complete awareness.
Dispassion is another important qualification, but this only means that you realize that the results of your actions are not up to you and you are happy with things being that way. It also means that you know that life is a zero-sum game. Many with terribly strong intellects have not figured that out. Or it means that the self, not objects, is the source of your happiness. Again, many geniuses do not qualify to know who they are, because their lives are dedicated to getting what they want from the world.
There is no time to get into it here, but you can read my book and it will explain the qualifications. The most important qualification is that you want to know who you are very badly. If you want freedom badly, you are very intelligent because trying to make this world give you what you want on a daily basis is pretty stupid.
Don’t put yourself down, sweetheart. Have faith that you can succeed.
~ Love, Ram
