Don’t Try to Witness
Nicolas: Hi, Ram. I am writing after reading a few of the satsangs at ShiningWorld.
I understand that Awareness is Everything, but do not always readily distinguish what is permanent from what is impermanent. I can become angry and not able to dispassionately witness it from the all-encompassing cinema screen of impermanence. I find the boundaries between awareness and impermanent states sticky and don’t know how to realize distinction.
~ Kind regards, Nicolas
Ram: Hi, Nick. Awareness is the permanent part of you, the part that has been with you every day of your life. It is the part that watches everything, that knows everything that happens. It is there before every happening, during the happening and remains once the happening disappears and another happening appears.
Your body and mind are impermanent. They are in a state of flux. They are known to you, to awareness. You do not have to try to witness things. This is your ego that wants to be like awareness. It can never be like awareness. It is also witnessed by you. You know about that objective changeable “I” because you are awareness. You are already the witness. That “I” gets upset when it does not get what it wants. You, awareness, see the upset. So don’t try to be a witness. It is a waste of time. See if you can’t identify the witness that is there all along lighting up your life. Let me know how it works out.
