Screenplay Party Pooper
Jess: Hello, Daniel!
I hope this finds you well over there.
Thank you for your ongoing Non-Doodle posts, they are perfect for getting the knowledge a little firmer, day by day. I do hope your Lyme disease is improving too; with limited funds as a currently out-of-work actress, I only wish I could do more to help you along your way; if there is anything I can do for you with my actress/writing/producing skillset, please do let me know!
I am writing to you to clear something up that I have been querying, alongside writing my current screenplay.
I am wondering about the truth regarding “other planes of life that we cannot see”: ghosts, spirits, mediums, people who claim they can see the dead, who claim they can reach these other “planes of life,” etc.
I was under the impression through James’ teachings that the spiritual stuff is mostly bullshit... (I did transcendental meditation for two years and it most certainly opened my mind to the possibility of Vedanta – however, to my dismay, I soon realised it was “experiential”).
In short form: I’d love to understand the Vedic messages regarding “other planes of life” and ghosts, etc. I do know science states there are 11 dimensions and we are not capable of seeing anything past the third. This is why I am unsure as to whether there are other worlds (essentially within this one) that we jivas literally cannot see.
My screenplay is most certainly a fantasy, a “Harry Potter” if you like. But I wanted to include an absolute truth, reflecting Vedanta, also reflecting that the mind can certainly take you wherever you like within the waking, dream and deep sleep states.
I do hope this makes sense to you! I’m on a very open, elementary road to my screenplay, but as I said, I’d love to include absolute truth within this fantasy, as this life/world is all “apparently real” anyway.
Thank you so much for your time and I really look forward to hearing from you soon!
~ With love, Jess ☺
Daniel: Hey, Jess, ☺ I’m glad that the doodles are offering some value.
And thank you for your kind offer regarding your skillset. I’ll be sure to reach out if ever in need!
Right off the bat: I’m not so clued up about the “other planes of life” and ghost stuff, etc. so my response ain’t going to be the most exciting one for a screenplay.
But if you were to ask me what benefit gaining knowledge of “other planes” and of ghosts, etc. would be with regards to attaining liberation, then I’d be able to confirm that it’s absolutely not necessary nor is it important.
Vedanta is essentially concerned about liberation (moksa), discriminating the apparent (mithya) from the real (satya). Though the teachings offer great details about “other planes,” etc. they really do not offer any value in light of learning how to live a free life. Why? Because all levels (different realms, etc.) are “below the line” in mithya and none of them are more real or have more meaning than any other. The essence of Vedanta is to point out that these apparent worlds are known to you, awareness, and that you’ve always been free from all worlds.
I’m boring and totally just get turned on by moksa! ☺
I’m not sure what I could add to benefit your question.
Some people can see subtle energies such as disembodied jivas of a “good or bad” nature more clearly than others, and are called psychics, etc. Again, in light of moksa, this ain’t really an advantage, to the contrary.
Some of it has some value from the mithya level, but the problem is of course that if it is taken to be real, which it usually is, it keeps you stuck in duality. The ability to see or hear disembodied entities is just the ability to tune in to a different bandwidth, so to speak, much like tuning into a different TV or radio channel. It’s no big deal. The psychic world of spirits are all based on duality and there is no valid or objective teaching in light of moksa.
Like Sundari once said: “It is spiritual materialism, no different from any other materialism – but perhaps more dangerous in terms of giving your power and self-confidence (not to mention common sense!) as the self away.”
Sorry about being a screenplay party pooper!

Jess: Hi, Daniel!
Thank you so so much for this detailed answer. It made me smile, actually. It’s so beautiful that Vedanta goes over and above all of these things.
When Vedanta found me, I did shake off a lot of “spiritual” friends who bought into this stuff, so much so it was ruining their jivas’ lives. It’s so amazing to know that these entities don’t cease to exist, but they are simply based in duality. I’m sure some people replace their materialistic issues for “spiritual” ones like these. ☺
I 100% want to create something with truth, rather than pure fantasy. Fellow Vedanta bus riders: Tom, Santessa, Eliott and I are onto something and we’ll be excited to show you when it’s finished. ☺
Daniel: I can’t wait to see what Isvara – through all you shining jnanis – come up with!
