Sham: Dear Ramji, I attended one of your webinars recently and have been reading tons of books on Vedanta. Many times recently I find that what I am doing in the world is nonsense. I know I have to do those things just to be in the world, but I feel I am wasting my time! Is this good – a sign of progress or what?
Ramji: Hi, Sham. No, it is not a sign of progress. The things that have to be done have to be done. You cannot escape them. The way you neutralize the feeling that these things are useless is to take the karma yoga attitude toward them. Then your work becomes a vehicle for your spiritual growth. I suggest you read my book How to Attain Enlightenment and read the satsangs at the website, particularly the ones on karma yoga. Also read the Bhagavad Gita. This was Arjuna’s problem too. He did not want to do what needed to be done. It caused a breakdown. At the same time you need to take a careful inventory of your actions and see what useless actions can be given up, as a lot of what people do is totally unnecessary.
