Mike: Dear James, I am listening to your webinar on qualifications and will remain until the end. You said that a burning desire is needed because getting rid of ignorance is hard work.
Isn’t there more to it? We need to be willing to give up our identification with the body-mind-intellect. We need to love the self more than any object, right?
Sundari: Hello, Mike. In future if you want your question to be replied to while the webinar is live, please type the message in the box provided by AnyMeeting.com.
Yes, getting rid of ignorance is hard work because it is hardwired and aggressively tenacious. For moksa to obtain, your dedication to sadhana must be your most important goal.
The whole chapter that James taught on the webinar was on the qualifications, what it takes to begin self-inquiry. Please read that chapter carefully as it is in the latest newsletter and on the website. It states very clearly that a burning desire is the most important qualification but it is one of several. Discrimination is one of the main qualifications too, which is being able to tell the difference between the self, you, and what arises in you, all objects, gross and subtle. True devotion to self is the knowledge that the self is not an object of perception; it is who you really are. It is the knowledge that all objects are made up of the self, arise in the self, depend on the self and dissolve into the self, but the self is always free of all objects.
