To be honest, I don’t think I need Vedanta anymore. Since the break-up with my girlfriend, I contemplated what went wrong. And I realized that what went wrong is I believed someone else could provide me with joy. I see now that objects are value-neutral and you give meaning to them according to your vasanas.
The whole time I was just me experiencing the love thing. I realized that the romance doesn’t mean a thing. It is an experience that didn’t change me at all. While contemplating that, I further realized that nothing will happen that isn’t supposed to happen and that what happens has nothing to do with me. Now I know the love/sex thing is empty.
I understand that I am the awareness behind everything and that I cannot be changed. I understand that the world is me, but I am not the world. It’s funny, when I first heard the teachings about love, I thought, how could be people be so stupid not to understand what it is? But I fell into that trap.
Anyhow, thank you, James. I got so much support from your teachings.
James: Appreciation is much appreciated, Ken, but don’t be in too big a hurry to let Vedanta slide. Those pesky samskaras have a way of making one eat one’s words. If you stay attachment-free for another ten years I’ll mail your enlightenment certificate! ☺
